Paris is a city of unquestionable charm: a place always ready for change but at the same time remaining recognisable and distinctive. It is a radiocentric city with boulevards representing its various growth phases, linked to extensions of circles of building work which occurred through the course of history.
Paris revolves around its river, the Seine, which divides the city into two distinct zones: the right bank (rive droite) and the left bank (rive gauche). CityIsland, birthplace of the primeval city, and St-LouisIsland create a link between the two banks with their eight bridges, present since time immemorial. The right bank is considered the zone of commerce and business: it contains the headquarters of major banks, big hotels as well as the most significant retail stores. The left bank is historically the seat of the major religious fraternities, Universities and main libraries.
